On Sunday 5 April 2026, The Royal Thai Embassy in Brussels, in collaboration with volunteer teachers of the Thai language and cultural classroom, hosted the Songkran 2026 celebration for students and their parents at the Embassy’s Chancery. The event provided an opportunity for students to learn about Songkran which is the traditional Thai New Year and Thai Family Day.

 

The festivities began with the rituals of bathing the Buddha statue with scented water, followed by pouring water on hands of the elderly to show respect and seek their blessings. Activities continued with Thai folk games, lucky draw, and concluded with water splashing. Students and their parents enjoyed these activities, strengthening the bonds between students, parents and teachers.

 

On this occasion, Ms. Patcharamon Siriwatana, Minister Counsellor, on behalf of the Ambassador, delivered opening remarks. She emphasised the Embassy’s commitment to help children growing up abroad understand and take pride in their Thai heritage. She also expressed a sincere gratitude to all volunteer teachers and the parents for their dedication and continuous support in ensuring that Thai children born and raised in Belgium remain connected to the Thai language and culture. It is heartwarming to see the students enjoy their Thai language classes every Sunday morning.

 

The Royal Thai Embassy has hosted the Thai language and culture classroom every Sunday morning at the Embassy’s Chancery for two consecutive years. Currently, with 28 students and 10 volunteer teachers across 4 classrooms, the curriculum goes beyond the Thai language lessons by integrating cultural activities like Songkran and Loy Krathong into children’s learning experience.
