On 28 July 2024, the Embassy organised an orientation session for 17 Volunteer Consuls of the Embassy with a view to informing them of the objectives of the Project “Thais Helping Thais (THT)” and their roles as a Volunteer Consul as well as exchanging views and experiences on how to help those in need. H.E. Mrs. Kanchana Patarachoke, Ambassador of Thailand to Belgium, welcomed and thanked the Volunteer Consuls. At the event, the Embassy provided an overview of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ policy on protecting and promoting the well being of Thais living abroad as well as consular services provided by the Embassy. Invited speakers from various sectors, including Ms. Geraldine Horgines, Founder of Comptarsi and Trustee, Mr. Patrick Bourgeois, First Chief Commissioner of Police (1HCP), and Ms. Jutatip Talumassawa, Oasis Belgium, talked about how to set up a company in Belgum, the role of Belgian’s federal and local police in protecting foreigners and dealing with human trafficking cases, and how to deal with request for help from Thai nationals, respectively.
In 2024, the Embassy has established a network of Volunteer Consuls to expand consular services of the Embassy to cover across all regions of Belgium and Luxembourg, to facilitate Thai nationals in distress, and to help communicate their problems to the Embassy. Up to date, 26 Thai nationals have joined the Volunteer Consul network.
The Embassy will organise series of activities for Volunteer Consuls to equip them with necessary knowledge about consular services and how to best help Thai nationals in Belgium and Luxembourg facing difficult situations.
Our deepest thanks and cheers to all the volunteers!
