On 29 October 2025 at 10.10 hrs, H.E. Mr. Peter Claes, Ambassador, Deputy Chief of Cabinet and Diplomatic Advisor to His Majesty King Philippe of the Belgians, visited the Royal Thai Embassy in Brussels to sign the book of condolence on behalf of the Belgian Royal Palace in mourning of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother. His Excellency was received by H.E. Mrs. Kanchana Patarachoke, Ambassador, her spouse, and officials of the Royal Thai Embassy. H.E. Mr. Claes conveyed that the Belgian Royal Palace had already transmitted a Royal Message of Condolence from His Majesty King Philippe to the Bureau of the Royal Household of Thailand. His Majesty the King of the Belgians also asked him to extend His Majesty’s kind regards and condolences to the Royal Thai Embassy and to the people of Thailand.
Thailand and Belgium have enjoyed long-standing cordial relations since the reign of King Mongkut (Rama IV) of Siam, marked by the signing of the Treaty of Friendship and Commerce between Belgium and Siam in 1868. The close and warm ties between the two Royal Families have served as a solid foundation for the continued strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries.
His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother maintained a close friendship with His Majesty King Baudouin and Her Majesty Queen Fabiola of the Belgians. Their Majesties King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great and Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother paid a State Visit to Belgium in 1960 as Guests of Their Majesties King Baudouin and Queen Fabiola. In return, Their Majesties King Baudouin and Queen Fabiola paid a State Visit to Thailand in 1964, further strengthening the royal friendship and goodwill between the two countries.
