On 27 October 2025, the Royal Thai Embassy in Brussels, together with the Office of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Affairs, hosted the signing ceremony of two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on Agricultural Research and Biotechnology Collaboration between the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), together with the National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), and Université Catholique de Louvain (UCLouvain), as well as Ghent University (UGent) of Belgium.
The ceremony took place at the chancery of the Royal Thai Embassy, presided over by H.E. Mrs. Kanchana Patarachoke, Ambassador of Thailand to Belgium.
The new MoUs, covering a four-year period (2025–2029), aim to expand joint efforts in research collaboration, human resource development, and researcher exchange in agricultural and biotechnological sciences. They follow previous agreements signed in 2018 and 2019, which concluded in 2022 and 2023, respectively.
Her Excellency the Ambassador emphasized that the Embassy places importance on advancing “Diplomacy for Science” — as a bridge connecting scientists and research institutions between Thailand and Belgium, fostering cooperation for sustainable development and shared innovation.
The collaborations with both universities have already produced tangible academic outcomes.
The Royal Thai Embassy is confident that these MoUs will serve as a long-term framework for strengthening Thailand’s capacity in research, biotechnology, and food innovation, and mark another important step in scientific and diplomatic collaboration between Thailand and Belgium toward a sustainable future.
