On 25 June 2025, the Thai-Belgium Alumni Association (TBAG) organised an online orientation event titled “Study in Belgium 2025” for Thai students who will pursue their studies in Belgium for the academic year 2025–2026. H.E. Mrs. Kanchana Patarachoke, Ambassador of Thailand to Belgium, and Ms. Sarah Gasquard, Chargée d’Affaires, a.i., of the Embassy of Belgium in Thailand, gave opening speeches at the event. At the event, officials from the Belgian Embassy in Thailand, along with Thai alumni who previously studied in Belgium, shared useful information and their personal experiences to help prepare the incoming students.
On this occasion, the Ambassador offered guidance on various aspects of student life in Belgium, including practical tips for living abroad and an overview of the benefits of studying in the country. She highlighted Belgium’s high-quality education and its leading universities, such as Ghent University (UGent), KU Leuven — which offers a joint bachelor's programme with the Faculty of Engineering at Thammasat University — UCLouvain, and the University of Antwerp. The Ambassador also mentioned that international graduates are eligible for a visa to stay in Belgium for one additional year under the search year scheme to look for employment.
The Ambassador encouraged students to take advantage of Belgium’s central location in Europe, which allows for easy travel to neighbouring countries, fostering broader cultural and social experiences. She also underscored Belgium’s welcoming atmosphere for international residents and encouraged the students to connect with the Thai Students Association in Belgium (TSAB) for further support and networking opportunities.
Belgium is home to many renowned higher education institutions. In the French-speaking Wallonia region, there are six universities, while the Dutch-speaking Flanders region has five. In addition to universities, students can choose from a variety of specialized higher education institutions. Wallonia hosts 19 university colleges and 16 art schools, while Flanders is home to 13 universities of applied sciences and arts. These institutions are ideal for focused academic research and typically have affordable tuition fees. Many programmes are also available in English.
Belgium also houses IMEC, one of the world’s largest research and innovation hubs for nanoelectronics, semiconductors, and digital technologies, located in Leuven. Beyond academics, Belgium offers vibrant cultural experiences, including the world-famous electronic dance music festival Tomorrowland, and remains a popular travel destination among both Thais and other international visitors.
