On 22 October 2025, H.E. Mrs. Kanchana Patarachoke, Ambassador of Thailand to Belgium, together with officials from the Royal Thai Embassy, welcomed participants of the Certificate Course in Regulatory Governance and Development for Broadcasting and Telecommunications for Executives King Prajadhipok’s Institute (Class 2), led by Mr. Issara Sereewatthanawut, Secretary-General, King Prajadhipok's Institute, on the occasion of their study visit to Belgium.
The delegation received a briefing on the overall progress of Thailand’s relations with Belgium, Luxembourg, and the European Union, as well as the Embassy’s role in promoting these relationships. They are also briefed on Belgium’s telecommunications policy development by Ms. Yaowaluk Suthimanus, Counsellor, and on the European Union and Thailand–EU relations by Mr. Assarof Sasanakul, Counsellor. Afterwards, representatives from the European Union delivered presentations, including Mr. David Friggieri, Coordinator for the Media Chapter of the Rule of Law Report; Ms. Arantzazu Golderos, Lawyer at DG CNECT – Electronic Communications; and Mr. Marcin Warczak, Policy Officer. The presentations covered the European Telecoms Framework and the European Commission’s role in overseeing the telecommunications and media sectors.
The delegation also engaged in an in-depth discussion with the EU representatives on a range of topics, including the EU Anti-SLAPP Policy, the role of media and civil society activists, and the use of social media platforms such as TikTok in the evolving digital landscape.
King Prajadhipok's Institute organizes this program to equip senior executives with knowledge and understanding of communications affairs, strategic thinking skills, and a forward-looking vision to drive and advance Thailand’s communications sector in the digital economy and society era.
Apart from the meeting at the Royal Thai Embassy, the delegation is also scheduled to attend a briefing at the Belgian Institute for Postal Services and Telecommunications (BIPT), an independent authority responsible for regulating Belgium’s telecommunications, postal, and communications markets.
