On 4 February 2025, H.E. Mrs. Kanchana Patarachoke, Ambassador of Thailand to Belgium, led a meeting between Team Thailand Brussels, Dr. Ludo Holsbeek, Department of Environment & Spatial Development, the Flemish Government, and Dr. Roland Vanhoegaerden, Operations Managing Director, BENEO/Remy company in Belgium. The Team was briefed on the business model of BENEO/Remy Belgium with regard to buying various types of rice and processing it into rice-based products, including rice protein and starch. BENEO/Remy has been working with NGO Rikolto and CarbonFarm to promote sustainable rice cultivation in the Mekong Delta in Vietnam, which is financially supported by the Flemish Government. The Embassy will further explore possible cooperation with the Belgian side in this regard.
