On 12 October 2024 evening, H.E. Mrs. Kanchana Patarachoke, Ambassador of Thailand to Belgium, and spouse, and officers and staff of the Embassy and Team Thailand, attended “Gent Thainight” Muay Thai fight at ‘t Kuipke velodome, Ghent, at the invitation of Mr. Patrick Vanacker, President of the Belgian Muay Thai Federation and the organizer of the event. More than 20 matches of Muay Thai and kick boxing in different age, sex, weight categories were fought and around 2,000 people attended.
Muay Thai is very popular in Belgium. There are around 90 Muay Thai camps in the country, and Team Mahanakorn in Ghent, among others, has more than 500 members. Gianny de Leu, World Muay Thai Council (WMC) championship, and Axana Depypere, Belgian Muay Thai athletes from Mahanakorn gym in Ghent also won gold and silver medals the European Muay Thai championship in 2023 and participated in the event.
The event also provided delicious Thai dishes for the guests such as Pad Thai, Massamun, Pad Kaprao. We are looking forward to “Gent Thainight” next year!
