On 27 August 2024, H.E. Mrs. Kanchana Patarachoke, Ambassador of Thailand to Belgium, met with Ambassadors of ASEAN Member States and Timor Leste under the ASEAN Brussels Committee (ABC) at the Embassy of Malaysia in Brussels. H.E. Mr. Dato’ Mohd Khalid Abbasi, Ambassador of Malaysia to Belgium, Luxembourg, and the European Union, is the Chair of ABC for the second half of 2024.

The participants discussed the outcomes of the 57th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) and related meetings during 24 – 28 July 2024 in Vientiane, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, including developments in ASEAN economic connectivity, the transition towards a digital future, and joint efforts to mitigate the impact of climate change. In addition, the meeting deliberated on activities during Malaysia’s Chairmanship of ABC to advance ASEAN-EU collaboration. For example, seminars with the EU to promote trade, investment and customs facilitation, meetings with policy makers in the EU and Belgium to explore opportunities for further collaboration with the aim to strengthen the ASEAN-EU Strategic Partnership.
