On 18 March 2026, H.E. Mrs. Kanchana Patarachoke, Ambassador of Thailand to Belgium, together with officials of the Royal Thai Embassy, paid a visit to the premises of the Buddhist Union of Belgium (BUB) at Rue Capouillet 35, 1060 Brussels and held a meeting with Mr. Carlo Luyckx, President of BUB. Both sides exchanged views on ways to promote Buddhism in Belgium, including in particular the planned organization of activities on the occasion of Vesak Day.
The Buddhist Union of Belgium was established in 1997 through the cooperation of over 30 Buddhist associations, organizations, meditation centres and temples from various traditions and countries. These include Wat Thai Dhammaram and Wat Dhammaprateep. The Union has consistently been working to advance the legal recognition of Buddhism in Belgium. It is estimated that there are around 150,000 Buddhists in Belgium.
