On 21 September 2023, Ms. Warunee Pan-Krajang, Minister, the Royal Thai Embassy in Brussels, together with the Embassy’s consular team, met Ms. Lamphan Sanjamla, President of Thaise-Vlaamse Culturevereniging (Thaivlac) and her colleagues. Minister Warunee applauded Thaivlac’s activities of teaching Thai language and culture to both Belgians and Thais living in Belgium, in particular second-generation Thai youths, who have been raised in the society that has few relationships and interaction with Thailand. Through these activities organised by Thaivlac, the Thai children and Belgians can learn and be instilled with Thai culture. The Association also teaches Dutch language to Thais so that they can communicate with Belgian people in their everyday life as well as occasionally provides assistance to vulnerable Thai people by acting as interpreter in their legal proceedings. Thaivlac’s undertakings are in line with the cultural diplomacy which the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand has been promoting. The Ministry seeks to support Thai communities abroad in a sustained manner. The Embassy also showed its readiness to assist Thaivlac to continue on its good cause. On this occasion, Minister Warunee, on behalf of the Embassy, presented the Embassy’s financial support to the Association as a token of appreciation.

Thaise-Vlaamse Culturevereniging (Thaivlac), which was founded in 2011, offers Thai language and tradition dance courses for foreigners and children of Thais living in Belgium and the Netherlands. The dance group of the Association namely “The Thai Belles” regularly perform in events and festivals all around Belgium, including ASEAN events in Brussels.
Most recently, Thaivlac’s dance group performed at I Love Thailand Festival in Bredene on 19 August 2023.
