On 2 September 2024, H.E. Mrs. Kanchana Patarachoke, Ambassador of Thailand to Belgium, called on Dr. Oxana Domenti, WHO Representative to the European Union. Cooperation between the Embassy and the WHO Representation Office to the European Union was discussed.
Ambassador Patarachoke affirmed Thailand’s commitment to advancing key global health initiatives and highlighted the country's proactive role in promotion of Universal Health Coverage (UHC), Migrants' Health and Sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) as well as combatting Antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
WHO is one of the key partners of the EU in promoting global health agendas including UHC, One Health approach and health emergency preparedness in the EU and globally.
WHO and Thailand, where the WHO Southeast Asia Regional Office is located, have developed close partnership. Thailand plays important roles in global health diplomacy such as Universal Health Coverage (UHC), Migrants' Health and Sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) as well as combatting Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).
The cooperation between Thailand and WHO is guided by Thailand Country Cooperation Strategy 2022-2026 with 6 priority programmes, namely 1) Digital Health 2) leadership in global health 3) Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) 4) Migrants' Health 5) public health emergencies 6) road safety.
