           On 3 December 2024, the Royal Thai Embassy organized the Reception on the Occasion of the National Day of the Kingdom of Thailand, The Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great and Thailand’s Father’s Day 5 December 2024 at the Grand Ballroom, The Hotel Brussels. On this occasion, H.E. Mrs. Kanchana Patarachoke, Ambassador of Thailand, presided over the opening ceremony and gave welcoming remarks. She was joined by the Guests of Honour, Mr. Jeroen Cooreman, Director-General of Bilateral Affairs, Federal Public Service Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation of Belgium, and Mr. Stefano Sannino, Secretary-General, European External Action Service (EEAS).
In her welcoming remarks, the Ambassador honoured His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great's legacy and detailing the 156 years of Thai-Belgian friendship and active cooperation in various areas as well as the dynamic partnership between Thailand and the European Union (EU). Mr. Cooreman offered congratulations on the auspicious occasion and welcomed Thailand-Belgium’s longstanding ties and the positive developments in the two countries’ cooperation. Mr. Sannino also expressed his congratulations and reaffirmed the EU’s readiness to work closely with Thailand to enhance cooperation in various areas.
About 280 people attended the reception, including members of the diplomatic corps, representatives from the public, private, academia, and civic organizations of Belgium, representatives of EU agencies, as well as Heads of Team Thailand and Embassy and Team Thailand diplomats and staffs.
The reception featured display tables by Team Thailand, including Office of Commercial Affairs, Office of Agricultural Affairs, the Tourism Authority of Thailand Paris Office, and Thai Airways sales office in Brussels, promoting quality Thai products, Thai tourism, and providing information on the resumption of Thai Airways daily direct flights between Bangkok-Brussels on 1 December 2024.
The reception also featured several Thai cultural performances by both local Thais and Belgians, including Thai instrumental performance, Thai dance, Muay Thai demonstration by Mahanakorn Muay Thai in Ghent, and music performances of by a string quartet comprising of Thai and foreign students and alumni from the Institut Royal Supérieur de Musique et de Pédagogie in Namur.
