On 4 July 2025, H.E. Mrs. Kanchana Patarachoke, Ambassador of Thailand to Belgium, Luxembourg, and the European Union, along with officials of the Royal Thai Embassy in Brussels welcomed the Senate Committee on Natural Resources and Environment, led by Chairman Mr. Cheewapap Cheewatham, during their study visit to Belgium.
The Embassy presented an overview of Thailand’s relations with Belgium, Luxembourg, and the EU, highlighting its role in strengthening these partnerships. Discussions also addressed the EU’s environmental and trade policies, their impact on Thailand, progress in the Thailand-EU FTA negotiations, and how Thai legislators can help navigate legal and regulatory challenges to align environmental and trade standards and advance shared interests.
Both sides exchanged views on promoting sustainable development in Thailand by drawing on Belgium’s experience in environmental policy, waste management, green space preservation, urban planning, climate action, and greenhouse gas reduction.
Earlier that day, the delegation received a briefing from Ms. Astrid Stroobandt, Project Manager of Blue4Green, and Mr. Peter Clauwaert, Head of Climate, Environment and Animal Welfare for the City of Bruges. The session offered valuable insights into urban planning and green and water resource management, relevant to shaping Thailand’s future environmental policies.
