On 3 June 2024, H.E. Mrs. Kanchana Patarachoke, Ambassador of Thailand to Belgium, participated in the 4th Edition of ASEAN Day in Luxembourg under the theme: Enhancing Business Opportunities between Luxembourg and ASEAN “Connecting the dots for a sustainable future”. The event was organised at the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce in Luxembourg. Ms. Siribhusaya Ungphakorn, Minister for Commercial Affairs, and Embassy team also participated.
ASEAN Day is a bi-annual event co-organised by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Luxembourg and the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce to enhance trade and investment opportunities in ASEAN member states and Luxembourg as well as strengthen relations between ASEAN and Luxembourg. The theme for ASEAN Day 2024 emphasised connectivity and green finance, which are potential areas where both ASEAN Member States and Luxembourg can advance cooperation and collaboration. More than 100 people participated in the event, including Ambassadors of ASEAN member states responsible for bilateral relations with Luxembourg, the Ambassador of Timor-Leste as ASEAN’s Observer, and representatives of Luxembourg’s government agencies, financial institutions and various organisations and companies who are interested in investing in any of ASEAN countries.
During the opening plenary session, the ASEAN Ambassadors gave presentations on business opportunities in ASEAN and their respective countries. Subsequently each country had one-on-one meeting with Luxembourgish companies interested in investing in ASEAN countries. These companies have strength in green finance, financial technology (Fintech), space technology, and the development of smart sensors for automobiles. In the afternoon, panel discussions on connectivity, transition to the digital economy, and green finance were held.
On this occasion, His Royal Highness Prince Guillaume, Hereditary Grand Duke of Luxembourg, in his capacity as Honorary Chairman of the Trade and Investment Board of Luxembourg, and H.E. Mr. Xavier Bettel, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Luxembourg, hosted a luncheon for Ambassadors of ASEAN Member States as well as Ambassador of Timor-Leste. Ms. Patcharamon Siriwatana, Minister Counsellor, also attended on behalf of the Ambassador of Thailand.
