On 27 April 2025, the Royal Thai Embassy and volunteer teachers of the Thai language and cultural classroom in Belgium organised an event to celebrate Songkran for Thai students and their parents. The students learned about the Thai tradition of Songkran, also known as Thai New Year, by participating in rituals of pouring water on Buddha and on elders for blessings, and taking part in Thai traditional children’s games and raffle games. Such an enjoyable and heartwarming activity not only put smiles on the faces of children, parents and teachers, but also provided an opportunity for them to learn and take pride in the beautiful tradition of Songkran.
On this occasion, Ms. Patcharamon Siriwatana, Minister Counsellor, on behalf of the Ambassador, opened the event and invited students and their parents to join the celebration of Songkran when families are reconnected, making merit and pay respect to the elderly. Furthermore, a Thai language student representative gave a speech in Thai to express appreciation to all the volunteer teachers for their dedication and commitment.
The Embassy wishes all the volunteer teachers, the students and their families a very happy Thai New Year.
