On 13 August 2023, Ms. Patcharamon Siriwatana, Minister Counsellor, and Mr. Pathompong Singthong, Counsellor and Consul, as well as the Embassy’s officer, attended the Buddhist ceremony celebrating the Thai Mother’s Day and the Buddhist Lent Day for the year 2023 at Wat Thai Buddharama Luxembourg. The ceremony was led by Phra Raja Visuddhivides, the Most Venerable Abbot of Wat Thai Dhammaram in Waterloo, and Phramaha Yutthapong Sarikan, the Abbot of Wat Thai Buddharama Luxembourg, as well as other two monks. The Minister Counsellor also led participants in the ceremony and the offering of candles to monks. Around 50 Thais and foreigners together with their families from Luxembourg, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands participated in the event. During the event, there were various activities including candle-carrying procession, alms-offering to monks, Thai traditional dance show and lunch sharing. The Embassy contributed different kinds of Thai food and dessert.
Wat Thai Buddharama Luxembourg is the only Thai temple in Luxembourg where around 360 Thai people live. Currently, the Temple is looking for a permanent location for settlement. In April every year, the Temple organises a Buddhist ceremony and a fair to celebrate Songkran Festival (Thai New Year). The Embassy also participates in the event and offers mobile consular service for Thai people in Luxembourg.
